In Kreuzberg, directly at Schlesisches Tor, one of Berlin's most unique bars is hidden in a former brothel: Madame Claude literally turns everything upside down. Sofas, lamps, and tables stick to the ceiling, while every evening live music, DJs, and open-mic nights lure guests into the cellar.

Madame Claude: When Up and Down Switch Roles

Since 2008, Madame Claude in Berlin-Kreuzberg has been welcoming guests to concerts, parties, and all sorts of events – in an ambiance that you won’t soon forget. The heart of the bar is a room designed to resemble an upside-down apartment: furniture defies gravity, hanging from the ceiling. Sofas, floor lamps, side tables – everything is enthroned up there, while you sit soberly below with a drink in hand, wondering if it’s really like that. The bar is located in the Kreuzberg-Schlesisches-Tor district, known for its intense alternative nightlife.

Behind the concept are three French friends who had previously worked in Paris, Madrid, and London and decided to meet in Berlin and open a club – even though none of them could speak German. The result is a bar that stands out from the crowd with its quirky signature. The house cocktail is simply called “Mme. Claude”.

Live Music, Quiz Nights, and Kreuzberg Nights

Every evening, a different event takes place at Madame Claude: live music, open-mic concerts, DJ sets, or music quiz nights ensure that you rarely have the same experience twice. Experimental music is featured on Mondays, while weekends often present multiple live acts. Additionally, there’s a wide selection of beers at fair prices, as well as a foosball table and an arcade machine. The audience is as diverse as the program: locals, travelers, music fans, and the curious. The staff is considered exceptionally friendly, which further enhances the evening. It’s worth arriving early for the best spot – because the small club in the basement quickly fills up at night.
