Philharmonie

Architecturally, the Philharmonie is considered the main work of architect Hans Scharoun.
When it opened in 1963, just over 50 years ago, it was still located on the edge of City West. After reunification, its location in the Kulturforum on the edge of the Tiergarten suddenly moved it to the center of Berlin. The unusual, asymmetrical shape and intense yellow color made the building one of Berlin’s landmarks. The then-novel concert hall became a model for concert halls around the world.
Above all, however, the Berlin Philharmonic provide Berliners and culturally interested visitors to the city with outstanding musical moments. The Berlin Philharmonic, under the direction of chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle, are considered one of the best orchestras in the world.
