Konzerthaus Berlin

The Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt in Mitte is considered a masterpiece by Schinkel and is a cultural venue with tradition.
It was built in 1776 as a French comedy house, then served as a national theater, playhouse, and finally a concert hall. Schiller repeatedly attended performances of his plays here. Gustav Gründgens shone in Goethe’s Faust with his portrayal of Mephisto. The interior of the building was destroyed during World War II. Since 1984, the building has functioned as a concert hall.
Today it offers a diverse program: symphony concerts, chamber music, music theater, early and new music. Special concerts for children also take place in the Konzerthaus. Those who simply want to take a look behind the impressive facade can participate in regularly offered tours and guided visits.
