Open Air Concerts at the Waldbühne
The Waldbühne is located in a hollow on the Murellenberg in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and accommodates 22,290 guests on terraced seating, modeled after Epidauros. Concerts have been held here since 1962, and under a tent roof since 1982. In 2026, Nick Cave, the Pet Shop Boys, and Gianna Nannini performed. Among Berlin's open-air concert venues, it is the largest.

The Waldbühne was built during the 1936 Olympic Games in the Murellen Gorge in the west of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Werner March was in charge of construction, the plans came from Conrad Heidenreich, and the ancient theatre of Epidauros served as a model. Accordingly, the rows of seats rise in terraces on the slopes of the hollow. The spectator area can accommodate 22,290 people, of whom 19,640 are seated in the stands, the rest stand in the inner area or use one of the twelve wheelchair spaces at Block K. A tent roof has spanned the stage since 1982. The building was opened under the name Dietrich-Eckart-Freilichtbühne. After World War II, it initially served as an open-air cinema, including for the Berlinale, and as a venue for boxing matches. Concerts have been held here since 1962. The owner is the State of Berlin, and operations are currently managed by CTS Eventim.
What was on the Waldbühne program in 2026
The 2026 season began in late May with Zach Bryan. Late June saw the season-closing concert of the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko, with Jonas Kaufmann singing and an approaching thunderstorm cutting short the sold-out evening. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds played 22 songs from their Wild God Summer Tour to a full house in late June. In July, Mumford & Sons came with Caamp as support and the Pet Shop Boys with their Greatest Hits Show Dreamworld. August featured Sebastian Fitzek on two evenings, Sarah Connor, and Roland Kaiser, who also performed twice. Gianna Nannini concluded the season on September 19 in front of approximately 20,000 guests in a sold-out arena; it was her only concert of the year. Waldbühne does not sell tickets itself; prices are set by the respective organizer.

Public Transport
S3 and S9 to Pichelsberg, about a ten-minute walk from there. Via U2 to Olympia-Stadion, it's about a 20-minute walk; buses M49 and 218 also stop nearby.
Parking
There are very few spaces. The paid car park P07 at Passenheimer Straße 32 is about 600 meters from the main entrance. An alternative is the Spandau Arcaden multi-storey car park with a subsequent S-Bahn ride.
Bags and Souvenirs
Bags must be smaller than DIN A4; on-site storage costs 5 Euros per item. One non-alcoholic drink up to 0.5 liters in Tetra Pak or PET, as well as seat cushions and blankets, are allowed. Food, stick umbrellas, strollers, and cameras must remain outside.
Accessibility
Access extends to the upper tier; twelve wheelchair spaces are available at Block K.
Special Feature
The tiers rise in terraces on the slopes of the Murellen Gorge. The ancient theater of Epidauros served as a model.
