Freiluftkino im Volkspark Friedrichshain

The Open Air Cinema Friedrichshain is located in the middle of Volkspark, on the border with Prenzlauer Berg. Under the open sky, surrounded by old trees and meadows, this green space transforms into one of Berlin's largest and most popular open-air cinemas every summer.
Cinema under Trees: What awaits you at the Volkspark Friedrichshain Open Air Cinema
The open-air cinema in Volkspark Friedrichshain is one of the largest in Berlin, offering space for around 2,000 visitors. Benches with backrests ensure comfort, tables with chairs allow for a culinary accompanied film evening, and everyone can find their own spot on the sunbathing lawns. So, if you like, just bring your picnic blanket. Dogs are also allowed, as long as they are on a leash.
A wide variety of films are shown on the screen: film classics, arthouse productions, comedies, and dramas. Children’s films are also shown, as well as films in their original language. The program is pleasantly broad. In the 2025 season, the cinema, for example, showed the winner of the Golden Palm Cannes 2025, which very well describes the level of the curated arthouse offering. Those who also enjoy blockbusters or profound German genre cinema will also get their money’s worth here. Food and drinks may be brought along. However, if you have forgotten your provisions, you can stock up on site with chilled drinks, hot sausages, and the obligatory popcorn. The season runs every year from mid-May to early September.
Before the Film: What you can do around Volkspark Friedrichshain
Volkspark Friedrichshain is Berlin’s oldest public park and delights visitors with small lakes, hills, and the beautiful Fairy Tale Fountain. The Fairy Tale Fountain is located directly at the park entrance and displays the most famous fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in ten sculptures. If you want to eat before the cinema evening, we recommend the beautifully situated Restaurant Schoenbrunn in Volkspark, which offers Austrian-Mediterranean cuisine and a view of the duck pond for a relaxed evening.
