Die Wühlmäuse is a long-established and very well-known Berlin cabaret theater with a permanent location at Theodor-Heuss-Platz in Berlin-Westend.
The cabaret theater Die Wühlmäuse was founded in 1960 by Dieter Hallervorden and other colleagues in Schöneberg. Today, the theater has a permanent venue at Theodor-Heuss-Platz in Berlin-Westend. Allegedly, in the early days of the theater, a cabaret-interested mouse sat on the piano and listened to the rehearsals. Today, Die Wühlmäuse has the cheeky mouse in its logo – so much for the legend. Since the early sixties, this still lively stage has stood for intelligent cabaret and biting satire.
Well-known names such as Dieter Nuhr, Mathias Richling, Horst Evers, or Ingo Appelt are just some of the artists that can be discovered in the program. But many young cabaret artists and comedians also find a stage at Die Wühlmäuse to try themselves out. In summer, Die Wühlmäuse regularly presents a summer guest performance, and since 2001, “Das große Kleinkunstfestival” (The Great Cabaret Festival) has been held every year at the Wühlmäuse venue, also to promote talented young artists.
After a long time, the Berlin cabaret theater once again has a permanent ensemble with the same name, thus fulfilling a long-cherished wish of owner Dieter Hallervorden. Hallervorden put the ensemble together with Berlin cabaret artist Frank Lüdecke, who is also responsible for text and direction.
