A yet widely unknown skating route right by the water can be found in Wedding.

Anyone who wants to head out on inline skates or a skateboard in Berlin knows the problem: smooth asphalt, little traffic and an appealing setting rarely come together. These ten routes prove the opposite. On the skate route at Flughafen Tempelhof you roll over the former runway, in the Volkspark Friedrichshain beginners practise on their own circuit, and the Kronprinzessinnenweg in Zehlendorf is considered a classic among Berlin skaters. Sometimes it runs idyllically along the water, sometimes through forest and fields. If you do not want to miss out when it rains, you will find a roof over your head in the Skatehalle Berlin on the RAW grounds. And if the city becomes too small for you, you can drive out to the Flaeming-Skate in the countryside. Which route suits your riding style?

For this list I laced up my skates and rolled all across Berlin, from the Tempelhofer Feld through the Volkspark Friedrichshain to the Kronprinzessinnenweg in Zehlendorf. I paid attention to the quality of the asphalt, to as little car traffic as possible, and to the surroundings. Whether idyllic by the water or shady in the forest, here is my selection of the most beautiful routes.

A yet widely unknown skating route right by the water can be found in Wedding.

Idyllically situated between the Teltow canal and green areas you will find the so-called "Ost-Krone".

A quiet skating route that is idyllically located in the countryside hides in Karlshorst.

The skating route in Hans-Baluschek-Park is an insider tip and not so easy to find.

An 850 meter long circuit especially for skaters can be found in the eastern part of Volkspark Friedrichshain. Especially beginners can practice here without risk.

In the north of Spandau, right by the city limit, there is a 6 kilometer asphalt road that mainly leads through forests and fields.

The Tempelhofer Feld is the largest city park in Europe with enough space for inline skaters! The 4.5 km circular route for skaters leads amongst others over the runway of the former airport.

One of the most beautiful skating routes is not directly in Berlin, but just outside the capital city. The unique Flaeming-Skate route, a network for skaters, cyclists and wheelchair users extends over the district of Teltow-Fläming in the south of Berlin.

If you would like to skate in bad weather or try cool tricks on the halfpipe with your skateboard, you can visit the skate hall Berlin located at the RAW area in Friedrichshain.

An absolute classic among the Berlin skating routes is the track at Kronprinzessinnenweg in Zehlendorf!
