Film City at the Gates of Berlin

Filmpark Babelsberg is located at Großbeerenstraße 200 in Potsdam, right next to the world’s oldest large studio, where films have been shot since 1912. Bus lines 601 and 690 run from Potsdam Central Station and Babelsberg S-Bahn station to the Filmpark stop. Regional trains RE7 and RB33 stop at Medienstadt station, which is a five-minute walk away. Those coming via Griebnitzsee will walk for about fifteen minutes. The parking garage has its entrance at Lotte-Loebinger-Straße 2 and limits the clear height to 1.95 meters. The Medienstadt (Media City) with studios, workshops, and production companies surrounds the park, and this is precisely what distinguishes the location from an ordinary amusement park: here, the film set is not just decor but a neighborhood. There are special ticket categories for guests with disabilities, and toddlers up to and including three years of age do not need a ticket at all. The Filmpark directly borders the studio grounds where productions such as The Lives of Others, Inglourious Basterds, and Babylon Berlin were created. Guests experience little of the ongoing studio operations, but the proximity is palpable everywhere.

An adult ticket costs 25 Euros online, children aged four to sixteen pay 18 Euros; prices are noticeably higher at the box office, but there is no fixed day commitment there. Those who come on their birthday pay nothing upon proof, and the family ticket is worthwhile for families. This makes Filmpark the only film set in the region that can be fully explored rather than just viewed from the outside. Between the attractions are themed areas for children’s films, trick work, and costume design, plus a large outdoor area with accessible streetscapes. Those who arrive early can catch all four shows consecutively, with time in between for the workshops where masks and props are made.
