Where Wedding meets Berlin city history, a world long hidden opens up beneath Gesundbrunnen U-Bahn station. Berliner Unterwelten preserves tunnels, bunkers, and escape routes from oblivion, showing how deeply Berlin's past literally lies beneath the city.

Between U-Bahn and Underground: The Entrance to Berliner Unterwelten

The Berliner Unterwelten Museum is hidden behind an inconspicuous green door in Gesundbrunnen U-Bahn station. Those who know the entrance step into one of Berlin’s most historically dense places. The premises extend over four underground floors, housing a constantly optimized and supplemented exhibition. In addition, the permanent exhibition “Mythos Germania” is accessible on a mezzanine level of the northern access structure of the U-Bahn station. The mezzanine is only accessible by stairs; there is no elevator. This should be taken into account before your visit.

Hitler’s Plans for Berlin: The Permanent Exhibition of Berliner Unterwelten

The historical exhibition of Berliner Unterwelten illuminates architecture and urban planning in Berlin during the Nazi era, analyzes the ideological objectives and criminal consequences, and furthermore deconstructs legends and clichés surrounding the “World Capital Germania”. The multimedia exhibition highlights selected building projects and their structural, social, and ideological backgrounds in seven thematic areas. Over twenty authors* from various universities and memorial sites in Berlin have participated in this interdisciplinary project.

Original Exhibits and Film Props

Through numerous media stations, texts, and models, visitors* gain a comprehensive insight. Exhibits include parts of a Speer candelabra, artifacts from the Klinkerwerk sub-camp of the concentration camp in Oranienburg, and fragments of columns from the New Reich Chancellery. Furthermore, the model of the planned “World Capital Germania” can be explored. The main model of the exhibition comes directly from the 2004 feature film “Downfall”. This gives the exhibition an unexpected, almost cinematic quality.

Admission and Guided Tours

Regular admission to the permanent exhibition is 6 Euros, reduced 5 Euros – making it one of the city’s most affordable exhibitions. Those who wish to delve deeper into the underworld can also book one of the guided tours: Most tours cost 17 Euros, reduced 13 Euros. The Berliner Unterwelten cannot be visited individually but exclusively as part of a guided tour. Tickets should be secured in advance, as tours are regularly sold out.
