One of the most original hotels in Berlin is the Qbe Hotel Heizhaus in Berlin-Marzahn, near the suburban train station Friedrichsfelde Ost. The mostly young guests sleep in living containers, hip dice or unique towers on a 2500 square metre area with a total of 34 rooms. The area is in fact a former site of the National People’s Army (NVA) of the GDR, where original parts of the Berlin Wall can still be seen.
However, guests should not have too great demands on luxury and comfort. The whole thing is rather a mix of camping, hostel and hotel. The target group of the young hotel operators are young people, low-budget Berlin tourists and adventurous travellers. With 7 to 16 square meters, the rooms are quite small, simple and modern, but offer plenty of daylight through large windows.
The containers or cubes have a double bed or two single beds, small cupboard, lamp, roller blinds and curtains. There are no private bathrooms, guests have to use the shared bathroom. Some of the hotel towers also have 3-bed rooms. Although there is a heating system, the living pleasure increases during the warm season due to the roof terrace on the towers. The sanitary facilities and the common room are located in the main building.
In addition to the unusual living quarters, free internet access, a large beer garden, a simple common room, a barbecue area and a spacious garden are on offer. Pets are not allowed. Result: Living in the Qbe is suitable for price-conscious, adventurous travellers and guest used to camping, who estimate the exceptional housing form, without putting too much value on comfort.
