This year's 29th Berlin Fairy Tale Days focus on the "golden thread of fate". Fairy tales and stories of power and powerlessness can be heard until November 25, 2018.

“The Golden Thread of Fate” is the theme of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days 2018. Fairy tales and stories of power and powerlessness will be heard until November 25. Knowledge is power, money holds power, the power of love overcomes boundaries – this year’s fairy tale festival tells of all this, right up to the question of whether power can be limited.

In fairy tales and stories, power often plays an important role. The dark fairy has the power to seal Sleeping Beauty’s fate with her magic, but little Tom Thumb manages, with his cunning and cleverness, to defeat the much more powerful giants. Fairy tales symbolically illustrate how power and powerlessness are part of our life experiences and how even a seemingly weaker individual can defend themselves against more powerful ones.

Even in the younger sibling of fairy tales, fantasy, the theme of power plays a role in fantasy narratives such as “The Lord of the Rings” or “Star Wars”. Thus, among the multitude of events at the Berlin Fairy Tale Days 2018, there are many offers for various age groups, with fairy tales for children from 6 years old and also offers for young people from 14 years old.
