Southeast Asia meets Mitte: Transit serves Thai and Indonesian tapas in small bowls, perfect for sharing and trying a variety of dishes. The concept is simple yet convincing, which is why the restaurant on Rosenthaler Straße has been one of the most visited addresses in the neighborhood for years.

International Tapas Berlin-Style: Transit in Berlin-Mitte

Transit relies on a concept so clear it barely needs explanation: orders are placed using a long, thin paper slip where you write down the numbers of your desired tapas. The dishes then arrive at your table in small bowls. The offerings come from Southeast Asia, with the kitchen combining dishes from Thailand and Indonesia. The menu features classics like “Duck in Pajamas,” duck with plum sauce rolled in pancakes, or “Party Girl,” a fresh and spicy green papaya salad. Those who don’t eat meat won’t be left out: almost all dishes can also be ordered with tofu.

Lively Atmosphere that Encourages Return Visits

Transit attracts a lively crowd in the evenings, and the noise level is part of the experience. The restaurant on Rosenthaler Straße boasts minimalist decor with white walls, dark wood furniture, and colorful ceiling lamps. Those who visit the second location in Friedrichshain, however, experience the deliberate opposite: bright, vibrant colors and an original birdcage decoration characterize the look of the branch on Sonntagstraße. Both locations share the same core promise: small plates cost around 5.90 Euros, and the portions are considered generous. It’s also worth securing a table in advance, as on weekends the place is so well-visited that reservations are only accepted for hourly slots. Coming with a group is particularly good at Transit: the menu focuses on variety and sharing, making it possible to try many different dishes.
