One of the city’s hippest locations is the Transit Restaurant in Mitte with small Thai and Indonesian dishes. The bustling restaurant on Rosenthaler Straße has a minimalist décor with white walls, dark wood furniture and colorful ceiling lamps. This is where a young middle-class crowd meets and eats at long tables before moving on to the nightlife of the surrounding bars. On weekends it is so busy that reservations are only accepted by the hour.

At Transit they serve tapas-sized snacks from Southeast Asia in small bowls. On the menu are “Duck in pajamas”, duck with plum sauce rolled in pancakes, “Party Girl”, a fresh and spicy green papaya salad, “Cumi Cumi”, crispy calamaretti with chili and garlic or “Crunchy Strips”, crispy grilled pork-belly slices. With the dishes guests order rice or glass noodles. On the long tables, the food is shared with each other.

You can find another Transit restaurant at Sonntagstraße in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
