Hamam – The Turkish Bath for Women in Kreuzberg

The Turkish Bath for Women is a section of the Schokoladenfabrik e.V. Women’s Centre and was opened in 1988 as Germany’s first hammam. Since then, it has become an indispensable part of Berlin’s sauna landscape. In the Schokofabrik hammam, Berlin women of various cultural backgrounds, as well as female visitors from all over the world, meet to experience the pleasant aspects of this intercultural metropolis in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hammam is not just about mere physical cleansing, but a feast for the senses: warmth, humidity, foam, scents, and touches combine to form a complex work of art in the service of well-being. As a special extra, every woman receives a detailed tour on her first visit: the premises are shown, the usual course of bathing activities is explained, and the infusion times in the sauna are introduced. This way, even the first visit feels familiar from the very first moment.

Kese, Sabunlama and more: An overview of the offerings

The classic hammam visit with the traditional applications Kese and Sabunlama, i.e., full-body peeling and soap massage, has been further developed at Schokofabrik. In addition, a sauna, infrared heat cabin, a green inner patio, and cozy relaxation rooms are available. The Turkish bath thus invites guests to linger for a long time, far beyond a quick wellness session.

Women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender people of various cultural backgrounds, as well as visitors from all over the world, work and meet in the Schokofabrik hammam. Additionally, there are fixed times for all FLINTA* individuals: Every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 PM onwards is FLINTA* evening, where all women*, lesbians, intersex*, non-binary, trans*, and agender visitors are welcome. This ensures the hammam remains what it has been for decades: a true meeting place in the heart of Kreuzberg.
