Berlin’s Only Steiff Store on Kurfürstendamm

On the western Kurfürstendamm, where Knesebeckstraße joins, a large brown bear figure stands on the sidewalk. It marks the entrance to the Steiff Shop Berlin, the brand’s only store in the entire city. The address is Kurfürstendamm 40/41, but the entrance is from Knesebeckstraße, which visitors often overlook. Around it are cafés where you can easily take a break after shopping. If you come by subway, get off at Uhlandstraße, where the U1 stops and an elevator leads up; buses M19, M29, X10, 109, and 110 also stop in front of the door. Street parking is partially possible on Kurfürstendamm by car, and two underground car parks are just a few minutes’ walk away. The store is managed by Eric Tretscher. The fact that there is only one Steiff store in a city of this size is clearly noticeable on weekends before Christmas, when the queue stretches onto the sidewalk. Those who prefer it quieter should come early in the morning. The location at the western end of the boulevard also has the advantage that Knesebeckstraße is noticeably less busy than Kurfürstendamm itself.

Gifts for Children with the “Button in Ear”

Inside, animals stack up from floor to ceiling, all with the “Button in Ear,” the brand’s trademark for generations. Alongside classic teddy bears, the shelves hold farm and domestic animals, forest and meadow animals, wild animals, marine creatures, dinosaurs, and fantasy beings. For babies, there’s a dedicated corner with rattles, teethers, security blankets, musical mobiles, and rocking animals. For older children, there are figures from films and comics, from Disney to Snoopy to Harry Potter. The special item at the Steiff Shop Berlin is the Berlin Teddy Bear from the city edition: 28 centimeters tall, 55 Euros, and according to the manufacturer, exclusively available in Berlin stores and its own online shop. For a more personalized gift, you can design a teddy with a printed T-shirt or bib. You can start with smaller bears from just under 25 Euros. For collectors, there are limited editions, the Classic Collection, and Studio Animals, which go far beyond the children’s room. For children’s gifts, the medium sizes work best as they are still easy to carry.
