Anyone looking to do something together with parents or relatives in Berlin will find a reliable destination on the sixth floor of KaDeWe in Schöneberg. Since the Golden Twenties, all kinds of gourmet wishes have been fulfilled here. The delicatessen department has long been more than just a shopping destination: Early on, the sixth floor combined food retail and gastronomy, and the department store still adheres to this mix today.

Guests with black KaDeWe bags walk past the oyster bar; a few steps further, the scent of fresh truffles fills the air. It’s precisely this atmosphere that makes a joint visit so special. Among the approximately 50,000 daily visitors, an astonishing number of regular customers can be found, especially on the sixth floor, where the interaction between specialist staff and customers at the oyster bar or champagne counters is commonplace.

Cheese, Caviar, and Culinary Guidance for Parents and Relatives

The selection is overwhelming: On the sixth floor, there are around 34,000 items, including about 1,300 types of cheese, 400 types of bread, and several thousand wines and champagnes. A real eye-catcher is the newly designed cheese counter, where “KAESE” (cheese) is emblazoned in golden letters above a walk-in maturation cabinet made of brass and frosted glass. After the renovation, rarer varieties and cheeses from Germany are more in focus.

If you don’t know where to start, just let yourself wander. Besides seafood and champagne, there’s a stand dedicated to truffles, fresh sushi and sashimi, and a Mediterranean selection with a mozzarella bar. The KaDeWe own brand includes around 30 delicacies created in collaboration with small, regional manufacturers, making it easy to find a stylish souvenir for relatives. It’s worth planning enough time, as this excursion cannot be rushed.
