Orangerie im Schloss Charlottenburg

The Grand Orangery is located in the west wing of Charlottenburg Palace, directly by the baroque garden. High windows, chandeliers, parquet flooring - originally, the citrus trees of the Prussian kings overwintered here; today, string quartets perform in the two halls. For a marriage proposal, this means: you arrive as a concert guest and leave as a fiancée.
The Orangery at Charlottenburg Palace as a Stage for a Marriage Proposal
There are few venues in Berlin that can carry an evening as effortlessly as the Grand Orangery. It is located in the west wing of Charlottenburg Palace, with two halls of approximately 450 square meters each and a rotunda in between, behind which lies the baroque palace garden. Originally, the citrus trees of the Prussian kings overwintered here. What remains are the floor-to-ceiling windows, through which the last light of the evening spills across the parquet floor.
Today, classical concerts are held in the wings, with tickets starting at 24 Euros. If desired, dinner can be booked additionally, served in the opposite hall, while musicians in historical costumes perform. No one speaks between two movements, and that’s precisely the appeal: the moment the question is asked gets a pause all to itself.
The Palace Garden as a Second Chance
If the hall turns out to be too crowded, the alternative is right outside the door. The baroque garden behind the palace has free admission and is accessible until the evening. Between the carp pond, the Belvedere, and the old avenues, it’s easy to find a bench where no one will pass by for half an hour. And if a seated proposal is too conventional, just walk further to the water.
