Café Re has been located on Märkisches Ufer since 1995, directly on an arm of the Spree by the small harbor in Mitte. It’s not a concept store, but a neighborhood eatery with a cafe and bar counter, where regular guests define the atmosphere. In warm weather, tables with umbrellas are set up outside on the bank, offering views over the water to the TV Tower.

For a birthday, this is the relaxed option: no all-inclusive package, no separate event room, but a table by the water in the historic harbor district. Reservations are taken exclusively by phone, which suits the character of the establishment. Larger groups should arrange directly with owner Ute Else.

Berlin Cuisine, Cakes and Draught Beer

The menu is short and classically Berlin. Berlin Boulettes with homemade potato salad cost 9.90 Euros, Kassler (cured pork loin) with potato salad also 9.90 Euros, a pair of Vienna sausages with potato salad 8.80 Euros, and the colorful salad plate 7.50 Euros, with sheep’s cheese or tuna 9.60 Euros. There’s also a changing daily special, which you can inquire about at the restaurant.

For coffee and cake, there’s cheesecake for 4.50 Euros, apple crumble cake for 4.40 Euros, apple strudel with vanilla sauce for 5.40 Euros, and cream puffs with hot cherries for 5.50 Euros, plus its own ice cream menu. Berliner Kindl Jubiläumspils and Meckatzer Hell are on tap, a half liter costs 5.20 Euros, Berliner Weisse green or red 3.80 Euros, and Aperol Spritz 7.50 Euros. Jannowitzbrücke, with U8 and S-Bahn, is about 200 meters away.
