Old Gym Berlin: Celebrate birthdays in a landmarked hall

The building on Holteistraße was constructed between 1950 and 1954 based on a design by architect Hans Schmidt, serving as the gym for the neighboring school. Travertine, stone inlays, stucco, and sgraffito bands were part of its original design. The original parquet flooring from 1954 and the ladder rungs on the walls of the large hall have been preserved to this day, with chandeliers later added under the barrel vault.

Since 2017, the over 2,500 square meter complex has been renovated in collaboration with a Berlin design collective. Sealed surfaces were transformed into gardens with regional plants and wildflowers, and the interior is made of reclaimed wood and steel. The large hall measures just under 280 square meters, is column-free, nearly seven meters high, and framed by a surrounding gallery.

Rooms, Capacities, and Cuisine

Several areas are available for a celebration: the large hall for up to 300 guests, the small hall as a reception and lounge area for around 80 standing guests, and the 1,200 square meter summer garden, partially covered by a festival tent. Combined, the venue can accommodate 450 to 500 guests. The team hosts private parties for approximately 75 people or more; the small hall is not rented out individually.

The cuisine is prepared in-house, modern European and seasonal, available as a buffet, family dinner, menu, or finger food. The address is known for its brunch buffet with live cooking and music: 29.90 Euros for adults, 14.90 Euros for children, and 32.90 Euros on holidays with a sparkling wine reception. From the menu, the Berlin veal schnitzel costs 28.90 Euros, the cheeseburger 18.90 Euros, and an Aperol Spritz 8.20 Euros. Dogs are welcome, Ostkreuz is within walking distance, and the tram stops at Boxhagener Straße.
