Hotel de Rome: getting married in the old Dresdner Bank

The building on Bebelplatz was built in 1889 and served as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank until 1945, after which it housed the State Bank of the GDR. Architect Tommaso Ziffer converted it into a hotel, which opened in 2006. Much of the bank’s original character remains: The ballroom is the former cashier’s hall with a ten-meter-high glass ceiling, the original stone mosaic floor, and heavy chandeliers. Up to 250 guests can celebrate here.

The 20-meter pool and spa are located in the bank’s former jewel vault, one floor below street level. For smaller gatherings, there is the Hedwig Terrace on the fifth floor with space for 40 guests and views over Bebelplatz and the State Opera. Five additional salons are available for receptions and wedding party gatherings.

145 rooms, so the wedding party can stay

Overnight stays are accommodated in the hotel: it includes 145 rooms and suites, with the Superior category measuring 35 to 38 square meters, and the Presidential Suite at 200 square meters. Prices start at around 370 Euros per night. For a wedding with guests traveling from afar, this is a decisive advantage: no one has to look for a taxi after the celebration; the path from the ballroom to bed is just a staircase away.

Catering is exclusively provided by the hotel kitchen; specific prices for weddings are only available upon request. A civil ceremony is not possible at the hotel; the ballroom and rooftop terrace are available for a free ceremony. Parking at the hotel costs 38 Euros per day. For public transport, take the U5 to Museumsinsel or Unter den Linden, the U2 to Hausvogteiplatz, or buses 100, 245, and 300 to the Staatsoper stop.
