Tiergarten

Tiergarten

Lots of water, lots of green – with an area of 210 hectares Großer Tiergarten is Berlin's second biggest park.

Originally a hunting ground for Frederick the Great, this green opening was turned step by step into a public park. Today, you will find many nice items of garden architecture in Tiergarten like a rosery, Luiseninsel with a statue of the then Queen of Prussia and the English Garden with its Tea House, where you can enjoy concerts during summer. You can have a picnic, rent a boat or drink one of the local beers.

At the beautiful beer garden "Café am Neuen See" you can rent boats to row on a small lake.

Good to know: Tiergarten used to be Berlin's most popular BBQ location for years. In the meantime, BBQ has been banned due to the huge amount of trash being left there. If you get caught firing up the BBQ nonetheless, you can be fined with up to 1000,00 euros. By the way: After the BBQ ban, the park sees a lot less trash.
