In Volkspark Rehberge, in the heart of Berlin's Wedding district, a listed open-air stage from the 1930s transforms every summer into one of the city's most atmospheric open-air cinemas. Here, you sit under the open sky, surrounded by old trees, watching films on an inflatable screen.
Berlin’s Largest Open-Air Cinema: What to Expect at Rehberge
Around 1,500 seats are available here! This makes Freiluftkino Rehberge one of the highest-capacity open-air cinemas in Berlin. In mild summer nights, Freiluftkino Rehberge offers a diverse mix of Hollywood and independent cinema. German comedies, animated films, classics, and international films with big stars are shown on the inflatable screen. So, whoever is looking for both accessible mainstream content and cinephile delights will find it here. We found it particularly exciting that the program also features festival gems: For the 100th anniversary of its world premiere in Los Angeles, Freiluftkino Rehberge, for example, showed the freshly restored 4K version of Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece „The Gold Rush”. Additionally, the XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin recently guested here, which demonstrates how open the program is.
Snacks and drinks are available at fair prices at the kiosk. You are also allowed to bring your own food. The seats are not covered; seat cushions can be rented on-site in dry weather. Seating is unassigned, and admission is 30 minutes before the start of each film.
Location and Surroundings: What You Can Do Before Your Cinema Evening
The open-air cinema is located in Volkspark Rehberge at Windhuker Straße, corner Petersallee, in Berlin-Wedding. Across an impressive 115 hectares, visitors can expect expansive meadows, forest areas, sports facilities, and idyllic lakes. If you arrive early enough, you can start the evening with an extended walk through the park. A trip to the nearby Plötzensee is also worthwhile; its lido offers a popular refreshment in summer. If you’d prefer to eat something before the film starts: The restaurant „Schatulle” is located directly in the park and offers a diverse menu of dishes, cakes, and drinks. Screenings run regularly from May to September. A summer evening in Wedding with cinema under the stars is thus always within reach.
