Since 1979, the Celtic Cottage in Steglitz has been one of Germany's oldest Irish Pubs and far more than just a local bar. Those looking not only to drink Guinness but also to play pub quizzes and listen to live music will find a regular haunt with true character here.
Celtic Cottage: One of Berlin’s Oldest Irish Pubs Since 1979
If you’re looking for an authentic Irish pub in Steglitz, head to Markelstraße. The Celtic Cottage has been there since 1979, making it one of the oldest of its kind in all of Germany. On Thursdays and Saturdays, there’s live music with free admission, ranging from Irish Folk to Celtic Rock, Acoustic, and Country. On Mondays, the legendary pub quiz takes place, which has been running since 2004 and is regularly so full that it’s best to register in advance. Football fans also get their money’s worth: Bundesliga, Champions League, and all major tournaments are shown on screen. In the vicinity, you’ll also find the iconic Bierpinsel and Schloßstraße with its shopping opportunities.
Guinness, Whiskey, and Hearty Pub Cuisine
At the bar of the Celtic Cottage, there are nine different draught beers to choose from, including, of course, Guinness, Murphy’s Irish Stout, and Murphy’s Irish Red. Cider is also freshly tapped. If you prefer something more refined, opt for the whiskey menu with around 70 varieties. Food is classically Irish: the Full Irish Breakfast with bacon, beans, original Irish sausages, and Black and White Pudding is a highlight. In the evenings, the kitchen offers hearty pub dishes, such as Shepherd’s Pie, cheeseburgers, and sandwiches. The Celtic Cottage is an Irish pub where you simply shouldn’t rush.
