Privatclub Kreuzberg: Indie Club in the Old Post Office

The Privatclub is located on Skalitzer Straße beneath the elevated railway, halfway between the Schlesisches Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof subway stations. The entrance is easily overlooked: a single glowing P shines above a brick door, and behind it, a path leads downwards. The building was formerly a post office, and the club is situated in its basement. Before this, the Privatclub resided in the catacombs of the railway market hall, where it built a reputation older than its current address.

Downstairs, guests can expect a small room with retro decor, a bar, and a smoking lounge with armchairs. The low stage ensures minimal distance between the band and the audience. Those who cannot use the stairs can access the barrier-free entrance at the middle of the building, immediately to the right of the Privatclub: A ramp leads in there, which the staff at the main entrance will open upon request.

Karrera Klub and Live Concerts: The Program at Privatclub

During the week, the stage is dedicated to concerts, often featuring young bands from Berlin and abroad. Recently, Khan, Shearwater with Loma, Die Kammer, Matthew Mole, and King No-One were on the program. Tickets usually range between 18 and 35 Euros, and many evenings are sold out well in advance.

On weekends, party series take over, and one of them makes Privatclub indispensable for indie fans. The Karrera Klub has been running since May 1996 and calls itself the mother of all indie parties. DJs Christian and Spencer play indie classics, Britpop, Wave, Post-punk, and Shoegaze, and many bands had their first Berlin appearances in connection with the series, including Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, and Arcade Fire. Admission costs 4 Euros. In addition, Eisbär plays New Wave and Post-punk, Dedicated features HipHop and Soul, and Vinyl Thursdays have been exclusively playing reggae from vinyl for over fifteen years. All parties are for ages 18 and up.
