Cafe Moskau: From GDR Prestige Building to Berlin Celebrity Club

Cafe Moskau was the prestige object of the former GDR and today stands for something completely different: one of the most exciting event and club locations in the city. The listed building is located at Karl-Marx-Allee 34, corner Schillingstraße in the Berlin district of Mitte, opposite the Kino International. Therefore, it is no coincidence that filmmakers from all over the world regularly appear here during the Berlinale. Due to its location directly opposite the Kino International on Karl-Marx-Allee, celebrities from the film world also gather here for the International Film Festival.

Cafe Moskau, with its legendary night bar, was the scene restaurant in former East Berlin. The building was designed by architect Josef Kaiser as a sign of the close connection between the GDR and the Soviet Union and opened in 1964. So, whoever celebrates here does so in rooms that breathe Berlin history. The building also gained symbolic significance through a gift from the Soviet ambassador: a faithful model of the Sputnik satellite.

VIP Lounges, Celebrity Parties, and Club Culture Across Three Floors

The fact that Cafe Moskau is at the top of Berlin’s celebrity club map is impressively demonstrated by past guest lists. The entire FC Barcelona team, including Gerard Piqué and Shakira, celebrated their Champions League victory here, along with guests like basketball star Dirk Nowitzki. FC Bayern Munich also graced the venue: Schweini, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, and Arjen Robben celebrated extensively here after the 2014 DFB-Pokal final.

However, the club is not a pure VIP bubble. While a VIP area with 11 lounges offers optimal conditions for such celebrity events, the lounges can also be booked by regular party-goers. In addition, the location extends over several floors: across three levels, the venue offers approximately 3,100 square meters of flexibly usable space. The two light-flooded halls, Almaty and Moskau, are central. These are complemented by ten additional event rooms and two spacious outdoor areas: Atrium and Rose Garden. In the basement, there is also a club area of over 400 square meters. Anyone who wants to experience Berlin’s celebrity clubs simply cannot miss Cafe Moskau.
