Berlin is not only a political capital, but also a true city of cyclists. Anyone who loves their bike will find addresses here for every need, from the tailor-made bicycle to quick roadside repairs. At Tortuga Cycles & Café in Weißensee there are custom bikes and relaxed tours to go with them, velophil in Moabit advises on the right riding position, and the Radspannerei in Kreuzberg is a workshop and meeting point in one. Flashfix in Mitte charges fixed rates instead of an hourly fee and comes to you by cargo bike on request, while Radwelt in Friedrichshain is the largest shop on the list. The Fahrradladen Mehringhof with its focus on cargo bikes and the cycling school for adults in Steglitz have also made it onto the list. I get around Berlin almost entirely by bike, which is why I know how much a good workshop is worth. While putting this list together, I discovered shops that are far more than mere points of sale. At Tortuga Cycles in Prenzlauer Berg there is even coffee to go with the advice. I am sharing my favourite addresses for everyone who enjoys cycling.
Tortuga Cycles & Café at Prenzlauer Promenade 180 builds custom bicycles: Gravel, Adventure, Touring, and Commuter bikes are created here in two to eight weeks, with a custom build starting at around 1,800 Euros. The workshop hand-spokes wheels, and since 2018, it has hosted weekly social rides and its own overnighters.

Berlin on Bike starts its bike tours in the car-free courtyard of the Kulturbrauerei and has been cycling with guests through the city since 2004: three to three and a half hours, twelve to twenty kilometers, 35 Euros for adults including a rental bike. Additionally, there's a rental service with over 500 bikes starting from 15 Euros for 24 hours, completely without a deposit.
Radwelt at Warschauer Straße 31 is the main branch of the Berlin operation and also an official Giant Experience Center. The workshop offers fixed-price packages starting at 75 Euros for bicycles without a motor and 119 Euros for e-bikes. Additionally, they offer certified used bikes, rental bikes from 12 Euros per day, and their own brand Massenger.
velophil at Alt-Moabit 72 is the shop for high-quality everyday and touring bikes: trekking, randonneur, folding bikes, and pedelecs from Brompton, Patria, Riese & Müller, velotraum, and VSF Fahrradmanufaktur. A trekking bike with hub gears and a belt drive costs around 1,800 Euros. Thirteen people work in the shop and workshop.
Flashfix at Luisenstraße 51 on the Charité campus is a dedicated bicycle workshop with fixed flat rates instead of hourly rates: an inspection costs 99 Euros, a front tube change 29 Euros, and the visual and functional check is free. If you book online, you get your bike back within 24 hours. Payment is exclusively by card.
The Radfahrschule Berlin teaches adults how to cycle on the practice ground in Steglitz City Park, with traffic lights and road signs, but without other traffic. A small group course for hesitant riders costs 149 Euros for six sessions, beginners book eighteen sessions for 399 Euros. Bicycles, helmets, and rain capes are free.
The Mehringhof bicycle shop has been operating in the second backyard on Gneisenaustraße since 1979 and specializes in cargo bikes, child transport bikes, and pedelecs. The workshop is a Rohloff Service Partner, charges based on a cost estimate, and calls beforehand if it gets more expensive. They also offer purchase advice and physio counseling.
spoks at Mommsenstraße 16 is a workshop-only location with package prices: The regular inspection costs 99 Euros, the Pro package for road and gravel bikes is 279 Euros, and the express service for punctures starts at 30 Euros. They are authorized to work on Canyon, Rose, Shimano, and Woom bikes, and payment is exclusively cashless, meaning no cash.
Radspannerei at Kottbusser Tor sells steel-frame bicycles, builds wheels by hand, and manufactures individual frames and trailers in its own frame workshop. Lacing a wheel costs 70 Euros, custom fabrications are charged at 45 Euros per hour. Two hundred meters away, there is an express workshop without an appointment.
FroschRad at Wiener Straße 15 on Spreewaldplatz has been building its own city, trekking, and sports bikes with CrMo steel frames since 1997, starting at 495 Euros. Additionally, they offer a rental service, which, at 10 Euros for 24 hours, is among the most affordable in Kreuzberg, and a workshop that directly fixes minor issues even without an appointment.
