A traffic school as a practice area in Steglitz

Albrechtstrasse 42 is located in Steglitz City Park, at the corner of Steglitzer Damm, and there you will find a traffic school with traffic lights, signs, and marked intersections. This is the crucial advantage for Radfahrschule Berlin: real road traffic is simulated here, without other road users interfering. It all started in 1997 when Wolfgang Lukowiak supervised children at the traffic school and came up with the idea of offering the same to adults. He has been a driving instructor for all classes since 1977 and teaches alongside Sven Neumann, who joined in 2008. The target group is clear: people who never learned to cycle as children or who don’t dare to ride in Berlin traffic. Accordingly, it’s not just about balance, but quickly about the challenging aspects of everyday cycling, such as safe left turns and self-protection against blind spots. There is a cooperation with ADFC Berlin, which divides the tasks.

Courses for adults, children, and companies

Radfahrschule teaches in small groups of three to six people or in individual lessons, and the packages are sorted by previous knowledge. In a small group, one session lasts 90 minutes: hesitant riders book six sessions for 149 Euros, athletic beginners twelve sessions, complete beginners eighteen sessions for 399 Euros. In individual lessons, one session lasts 60 minutes; here, there are packages with three, six, or nine sessions. Children aged six and older receive one-to-one supervision, with the same three package sizes. In addition, there are short special courses on technique and theory, as well as a guided bike tour, a refresher course for anyone who hasn’t cycled for a long time, and modular courses for companies, which can also take place on company premises. Scooters, bicycles, helmets, and rain capes are provided free of charge by the school. Small group courses can be booked online, children’s courses are expressly only accepted by phone, and once booked appointments are transferable to the following year. If someone realizes after the first practice session that it’s not for them, they will receive a refund for the course, minus a small processing fee.
