An Own Brand at Spreewaldplatz

Wiener Straße 15 is located between Görlitzer Park and Spreewaldplatz, a few meters from the tram stop and about two hundred meters from Görlitzer Bahnhof. FroschRad started here in 1997 when Constantin Kühne began trading used bicycles. This evolved into something of their own: Together with vehicle engineering student Maciej, the design for a simple three-speed bike, now known as the “Stadtrad Klassik” (Classic City Bike) in their range, was developed. Today, Maciej Daszkiewicz manages the business, with a team of three, including a workshop master with twenty years of experience. The frames are produced in Poland, developed in Berlin, and the aim is deliberately formulated as unspectacular: sensible bicycles for daily use. The shop does not carry external brands; the entire range bears its own name. If you buy a bike here, you’re not buying from a catalog but from a manageable series of models that have been continuously developed for years. This makes spare parts predictable and repairs easier because the workshop knows every part of its own bikes.

Steel Frames, Clear Model Series, and Affordable Rental

All FroschRad bikes feature a CrMo steel frame, and the range is organized into three series: City Bike, Trekking Bike, and Sports Bike, plus special forms like the Balloon Bike and a Retro model. The model names indicate the technology: K stands for derailleur gears (Kettenschaltung) and N for hub gears (Nabenschaltung). Pricewise, the Sports Bike starts at 495 Euros, followed by Trekking Bikes at the higher end, and City Bikes in between. The second reason to visit is the rental service: The rental bike is a simple model with one or three gears, available as a men’s or women’s bike. 24 hours cost 10 Euros, and there are fixed rates for a week or a whole month, plus a cash deposit. You should bring an ID or driver’s license. For repairs, a simple process applies: make an appointment, drop off the bike in the morning, and pick it up in the evening. For minor issues, the workshop also helps immediately, without prior appointment. For people who need their bike daily, this is the crucial difference from a shop with a two-week lead time.
