EINSTEIN Unter den Linden in Mitte has been one of Berlin's most reliable addresses for Austrian cuisine since 1996. Viennese coffee house culture right by the government district, a view of the Brandenburg Gate, and a Wiener Schnitzel that consistently brings regular guests from politics, journalism, and culture back to this table.

EINSTEIN Unter den Linden: Where the Schnitzel Became a Berlin Institution

Some restaurants don’t need to be invented. They just need to be nurtured. EINSTEIN Unter den Linden, located directly in the government district, has been a classic in Berlin for decades. Its origin dates back to 1996, when Vienna-born Gerald Uhlig founded it, inspired by the culture of classic Viennese coffee houses. In early 2016, the creators of Grill Royal took over the café and carefully modernized it without altering the charm of the original. The loyal clientele shows that this has worked. Members from business, society, culture, politics, and international guests from all over the world meet here.

The establishment has also recently upgraded its culinary offerings. With Daniel Achilles from the former „Reinstoff”, Einstein has gained a new head chef under whom the menu’s DNA is preserved, but the house classics are subtly reinterpreted. Thus, EINSTEIN remains what it was, and at the same time becomes a little more.

The Original Wiener Schnitzel in Berlin: Crispy, Classic, Consistent

From early morning to late evening, Berliners and newcomers, people from politics and journalism, tourists and strollers come to EINSTEIN Unter den Linden to get one of the best Wiener Schnitzel in the city. On the menu, it comes with parsley potatoes, cucumber salad, and cranberries for 36 Euros. It’s not a bargain. But it’s also not an ordinary schnitzel. All dishes offered are freshly prepared daily without the use of convenience products and of the highest quality. For those who want to delve deeper into Austrian classics: Wiener Saftgulasch, marinated boiled beef (Tafelspitz) with pumpkin seed oil, semolina dumpling soup (Grießnockerlsuppe), as well as quark dumplings (Topfenknödel) and apple strudel are also on offer. In addition, there’s what you’d expect from a real Viennese coffee house. Half a page of the menu is dedicated exclusively to coffee: Fiaker, Einspänner, Mèlange, and kleiner Brauner. Thus, EINSTEIN Unter den Linden is one of the most reliable addresses for original Wiener Schnitzel in Berlin, served in a setting that does justice to the dish.
