A staple of Berlin's club culture since 2015, now newly rooted in Neukölln: Sound Metaphors at Weichselstraße 22 is the record store DJs from all over the world seek out for the most curated selection of second-hand vinyl for techno, house, disco, and dub.

Sound Metaphors: Where Vinyl is More Than Nostalgia

Some record stores sell music. Sound Metaphors sells attitude. Since its founding in 2015 by DJs Nemo Ripoll and Castro Moore, the store has stood for a lovingly curated selection of records and is considered a staple in the Berlin music scene. The concept was clear from the start: whether funk, soul, techno, or reggae, what’s most important for sales at Sound Metaphors is that the records also make their impact on the turntables of clubs. In short: this is a store by DJs for DJs, and the team also helps with the construction of custom sound systems.

Nevertheless, Sound Metaphors had to go through an unexpected chapter in 2025. In early May, the team announced that the lease for the old location was not renewed. But the Berlin scene did not let its favorite store go under. After the sad news in May, a glimmer of hope followed: Sound Metaphors is back, at a new location in Neukölln.

New Home on Weichselstraße

Sound Metaphors can now be found at Weichselstraße 22 in Berlin-Neukölln, once again offering customers a large number of second-hand records. After an intense last month full of carpentry, metalwork, heavy lifting, and CAD design, Nemo and Castro have set up their new store with as much care as they curated their inventory. With a focus on electronic music from the nineties and a carefully curated selection, the store is a hub for exchange and musical encounters that significantly shaped Berlin’s club culture. There is also an eponymous label, primarily releasing reissues and compilations. So, whoever browses the shelves of Sound Metaphors browses through ten years of Berlin music history. It is open Monday to Saturday from 13:00 to 20:00.
