Getting married in the TV Tower

The TV Tower at Alexanderplatz: 368-meter landmark

The entrance is opposite Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station, making arrival easy for the entire wedding party. The tower was built between 1965 and 1969 based on a design by Hermann Henselmann; the shape of the sphere is modeled after Sputnik. At 368 meters, it remains Germany’s tallest structure to this day, and has been a protected monument since 1979. The elevators take guests to the observation deck at 203 meters height in about 38 seconds. However, one point needs to be considered early in planning: the tower is not barrier-free. Because the elevators cannot be used in case of fire and the emergency staircase has about 900 steps, wheelchair users and severely mobility-impaired guests are not permitted to go up.

For the ceremony, the observation platform can be exclusively rented together with the Sphere Bar. The area measures 220 square meters, has 60 panoramic windows, and accommodates up to 30 guests for a seated wedding, or up to 120 people for a standing reception. One floor higher, at 207 meters, is the Sphere Restaurant with 200 seats at 40 tables. It rotates once per hour on its own axis, and the tables are fixed to the rotating ring, so the party sees all of Berlin pass by over the course of the evening. There is no price list for the ceremony and celebration; the operator calculates each wedding individually. Regular admission starts at 20 Euros per person.
