Kiezkino Charlottenburg is Berlin's most charming open-air cinema, hidden in the courtyard of the S-Bahn station at Stuttgarter Platz, right in the heart of the Leonhardtkiez. Here, independent cinema and genuine community meet, under the open sky and with a fresh drink in hand.

Open-Air Cinema in Berlin with a Neighborhood Soul: The Program

Kiezkino Charlottenburg is no ordinary open-air cinema in Berlin. From early June to September, the Kiezkino awaits you in the hidden courtyard on the edge of the station building at Stuttgarter Platz. The atmosphere is small, intimate, and deliberately communal. Chairs in pairs ensure you are close, but not too close, which we found particularly pleasant. At the kiosk, there are drinks, including beer and soft drinks, as well as small snacks for the evening.

As for the program, Kiezkino clearly focuses on quality over mainstream. Film enthusiasts could enjoy current blockbusters, timeless classics, and selected independent productions. The spectrum ranges from auteur-driven arthouse cinema, such as films by Xavier Dolan, to music documentaries and socially critical dramas, as well as preview screenings. So, if you’re hoping for a plain popcorn blockbuster evening, you’re in the wrong place; if, however, you’re looking for curated film evenings with discovery potential, you’re absolutely right. Children’s films are not really the focus; the program is primarily aimed at an adult, cinematically interested audience.

Stuttgarter Platz: Much More Than Just an Address

The location is a real bonus. Stuttgarter Platz, popularly known as “Stutti”, is an area loved by its neighborhood residents, with plenty of greenery and cozy benches for sitting and observing. So, if you want to take a stroll through the tree-lined Leonhardtstraße before your cinema evening, you’ll find just the right ambiance there. For dining, two addresses in the immediate vicinity are recommended: A visit to Brasserie Lamazère is like a trip to Paris. This French restaurant offers authentically traditional dishes and a good wine list. If you prefer something a bit more down-to-earth, Dollinger is the perfect choice, considered a neighborhood oasis on Stuttgarter Platz for over 30 years, serving seasonal cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.
