The KIM Bar on Berlin’s gallery mile in Brunnenstraße in Mitte, in the former Postcafé, is tiny and somewhat inconspicuous from the outside, but undeniably atmospheric. Almost every nearby gallery has hosted a party at KIM Bar. This is where the young Berlin art scene gathers to discuss the latest exhibitions and projects and to celebrate to electronic music. The bar’s interior itself is reminiscent of a gallery, deliberately minimalist with metal-clad tubes, a raw concrete floor, pale grey painted walls, a little light wood, and neon. Most of the furniture is made of natural wood. The honeycomb-like ceiling lighting is one of the bar’s few decorative elements.
In the evenings, the bar quickly fills up, and when the DJs start, it gets loud. The young scene crowd warms up here before going out, gallerists are deep in conversation, and hipster Berliners stand in groups. KIM Bar’s drink menu isn’t huge; it includes a few classic cocktails, such as the Whisky Sour or the Moscow Mule.
The bar’s music program is a mix of live acts and DJ sets. Monthly vernissage parties and Mitte coolness guarantee a hip nightlife program. Allegedly, a few artists meet weekly in a private room on the upper floor of KIM Bar to play cards.
