Literaturcafé Periplaneta

The small literary café on Bornholmer Straße in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg functions as a reading stage, mouthpiece, and creative center for the Berlin publisher periplaneta.
At the cross-media publisher Periplaneta, events clearly take center stage in its own literary café. Not far from the Bornholmer Bridge, which once separated East and West Berlin, scene authors often meet to present their works to an audience on the reading stage of the Berlin publisher Periplaneta, founded in 2007. Small concerts, film screenings, and dramatic readings by professional actors performing foreign texts in role-play complete the evening’s event offerings.
However, the small reading café opens as early as 11 AM. Primarily intellectual nourishment is offered here, meaning there’s nothing to eat except peanuts and gummy bears. The good coffee is not filtered but served student-style in a French press. Tea is also available, as well as the South German Leikeim beer in various varieties. Those who prefer to enjoy a Jack Daniels with their book will also not go empty-handed.
The books on display all come from the publisher’s program and invite visitors to get to know the still young independent publisher Periplaneta, which publishes books, eBooks, and audiobooks, maintains its own production studio, and operates the café as well as a monthly reading stage. In the café, alongside books, you’ll find a selection of specialist press such as literary magazines like “Federwelt”. You can also listen to the audiobooks produced by the publisher. The literary café offers free Wi-Fi; students and authors, in particular, use the quiet time in the café not only for reading but also for writing.
Surprisingly, the open café seamlessly transitions into the office spaces of the publishing staff. Café visitors can therefore watch the Periplaneta makers at work and, if necessary, directly ask questions about the books or the publishing program.
