Swimming Lake in Volkspark Jungfernheide

Jungfernheidesee is located in the middle of the Volkspark of the same name, and it’s just a few minutes from the Siemensdamm subway station to the entrance. The Jungfernheide lido belongs to Berliner Bäder (Berlin Baths) but is managed by a private tenant who sets their own prices and times. In front of the water is a wide sandy beach, behind it are sunbathing lawns that also offer semi-shaded spots thanks to the park’s old trees. This is an advantage on hot days compared to the pure concrete baths in the city center. Admission starts at 8 Euros, children between three and fifteen years old pay the reduced rate, and school classes and daycare groups of ten or more people receive their own group price. Those who want to visit all year round will also find an annual pass on offer, which quickly pays for itself with regular visits. Because the tenant only opens when the weather is suitable, it’s worth checking the current notices before heading there, especially on changeable days. However, the public is so well distributed across the spacious grounds that even at peak times, it never gets as crowded as in the inner-city baths.

Wakeboard Cable Car and Four Lanes on the Pier

The special feature of this bath hovers over the water: a waterski and wakeboard cable car makes its rounds over the lake, and just watching from the shore can fill an hour. Those who want to swim instead of watch will find four separated 50-meter lanes on the long pier, where a pace can be maintained even when it’s full. For children, there are slides, and next to them is a beach volleyball court for anyone who prefers to spend the afternoon in the sand. Access to the snack bar is barrier-free, and connectivity is uncomplicated with the U7 subway and bus line 123 to Siemensdamm. The Jungfernheide lido is thus one of the few baths in the city where sports activities and a beach feeling coexist. A path also leads around the lake through the Volkspark, so a day at the lido can be combined with a walk or bike ride. This is practical for groups, as the afternoon can be divided between water, meadow, and forest without anyone having to leave the premises.
