Lucky Leek on Kollwitzstraße is arguably the most renowned address for vegan fine dining in Berlin, led by chef and cookbook author Josita Hartanto. Only menus are served, ranging from three courses for 48 Euros to seven courses for 107 Euros, each with its own wine pairing. Reservations are made via their own website.

Plant-Based Fine Dining on Kollwitzstraße

Kollwitzstraße is one of the most famous addresses in Prenzlauer Berg, and at house number 54 stands Lucky Leek, an establishment that has shaped vegan cuisine in Berlin for years. It is led by Josita Hartanto, who is both head chef and managing director here, and also writes cookbooks. The establishment describes itself as a plant-based fine dining experience in a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, and precisely this mix defines the place: the plates are elaborate, the atmosphere is not. The Guide Michelin lists the restaurant in its selection and describes the cuisine as creative-seasonal vegetable cuisine; no star has been awarded. The M2 tram stop Knaackstraße is about three hundred meters away on foot, and the U2 subway station Senefelderplatz is just under four hundred meters away. In front of the building is a terrace where meals are served during the warmer part of the year. For cars, the usual situation in Prenzlauer Berg applies, meaning managed parking until late in the evening.

Five Menu Lengths and an Optional Wine Pairing

There is no classic à la carte menu at Lucky Leek; instead, you choose the length of your evening. The smallest menu includes three courses and costs 48 Euros, going up to four, five, and six courses, culminating in the complete seven-course menu for 107 Euros. The price per course remains fairly constant at around sixteen Euros, regardless of the length you choose. A wine pairing can be booked, offered in three tiers to match the menu length. What lands on the plates changes regularly and plays with techniques otherwise known from meat cuisine: Kohlrabi becomes sashimi with passion fruit and hazelnut, beetroot becomes schnitzel with mushroom cream and chive potato puree, and a parsnip and blackberry soup comes with French toast, walnut sour cream, and kale chips. Reservations are made via the booking tool on their own website, as the establishment manages its tables itself. Vouchers are available through their own shop, making the evening a perfect gift. First-time visitors are best advised to choose the mid-length menu, as it most clearly showcases the kitchen’s signature style.
