Located at Schiffbauerdamm in Mitte, Zimt & Zucker coffee house is a place that combines 1920s Viennese coffee house culture with Berlin character. Velvet armchairs, warm orange tones, and a view of the Spree turn breakfast in Berlin into a true ritual.
Breakfast in Berlin with a dance floor on your plate
The breakfast variations at Zimt & Zucker have unusual names: they are called Charleston, Slowfox, Tango de Luxe, Foxtrot or Quickstep, and that’s no coincidence. The ingredients are fresh and organic; particularly delicious are the pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup, or savory with bacon, egg, and sour cream. If you fancy a sweet breakfast, go for the cinnamon roll with homemade jam or a croissant. If you prefer savory, order topped sourdough bread or the cheese and sausage platter. Vegan options are also plentiful: the vegan platter brings together lentil salad and couscous, along with grilled vegetables, vegan spreads, and soy yogurt with berry puree. If you’re still hungry afterward, we recommend the Kaiserschmarrn. Kaiserschmarrn, Semmelknödel (bread dumplings), and Topfenknödel (quark dumplings) are all homemade. The coffee is organic, and the portions are generous.
Since 2008 in Mitte, and today also in Schöneberg
Sandra Zink and Christiane Wotzka have passionately operated the Zimt & Zucker coffee house at Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin since 2008. This makes the coffee house one of the more enduring addresses for breakfast in Berlin Mitte. Since 2018, there has also been a second home on Potsdamer Straße, the entertainment street of bygone days in old West Berlin. If you plan a stroll after breakfast, Schiffbauerdamm is an excellent starting point. From there, you can wander along the Spree, visit the Berliner Ensemble, or plan a show at the Friedrichstadt-Palast. The area around Friedrichstraße has changed significantly in recent years, but Zimt & Zucker holds fast to its style. And that’s precisely what makes it so reliably good.
