Fine Bagels in Friedrichshain is Berlin's most renowned address for hand-rolled New York-style bagels from a Jewish baking tradition that dates back four generations. The café is located in the heart of the Shakespeare & Sons bookstore on Warschauer Straße, combining freshly baked dough rings with books, cheesecake, and a true morning ritual.

Fine Bagels: New York meets Friedrichshain

Anyone looking for the best bagels in Berlin will eventually end up at Warschauer Straße 74. Fine Bagels is considered Berlin’s most famous bagel spot and is run by a Jewish family whose baking roots span over four generations from Warsaw to Boston. The bakery produces hand-rolled, New York-style boiled and baked bagels. The result is dough rings with a shiny crust and the characteristic bite that bagel fans seek.

Fine Bagels has been part of Berlin’s breakfast scene for almost a decade. The bagels are hand-rolled, first boiled, and then baked, resulting in the typical shiny exterior and the soft, yet chewy interior. Whether classic with salmon and cream cheese or sweet with cinnamon-raisin: the variety of flavors ranges from Plain and Sesame to Everything and Rye, as well as Cinnamon Raisin, Egg Poppy, and Rosemary Sea Salt.

Bagels, Books, and Babka

Fine Bagels is located in the Shakespeare & Sons bookstore and impresses with a cozy atmosphere and an excellent selection. Those waiting for their bagel can simply pick up the next book. The bakery also specializes in traditional Jewish pastries, breads, and cakes. Thus, in addition to bagels, Babka, Rugelach, and New York Cheesecake are also on the menu.

Creations like “The Goat” and “Sticky Goat” with generous cream cheese are particularly popular. Even when it gets crowded during peak hours, service at the table is surprisingly quick. The prices are fair, even a little lower than one might expect for this quality. All in all, Fine Bagels is one of the few places in Berlin where the journey is truly worthwhile, and not just for the bagel.
