In the hidden backyard of Boxhagener Straße in Friedrichshain, Mahalaya Yoga & Healing Arts resides in the listed halls of a former writing pen factory. What started in 2012 as a pure hot yoga studio is now one of Berlin's most versatile yoga training centers, combining intense depth with healing tranquility.

Mahalaya Yoga & Healing Arts: Where Yoga Training Meets Depth of Experience

Anyone looking for yoga teacher training in Berlin will sooner or later end up in this backyard in Friedrichshain. Mahalaya means „great temple” and stands for a heartfelt place where yoga can be lived and healing experienced. What makes it special: The trainings here are not an add-on to the course offerings, but a real focus. The Hot Yoga training, for example, not only teaches classic Hatha Yoga positions but is methodologically considered a particularly proven foundation because it trains precise and continuous verbal instruction like hardly any other style. Thus, it forms an exceptionally strong core competence for all who want to teach yoga professionally.

The Hot Yoga training is designed so that participants receive intensive space for self-practice, posture clinics, and teaching clinics over four months on eight long weekends. At the end of the training, graduates not only master the 26+2 series but have acquired the absolute core competence for guiding groups: from verbal cues to voice leading to an authentic and responsible presence. In addition, Mahalaya also offers further training in yoga anatomy.

Healing Breadth: From Hot Yoga to Soundhealing

After a complete renovation, the listed halls of the Schreibfeder Höfe house a heated yoga room for strenuous activities and another non-heated yoga room for relaxation, workshops, and trainings. This allows training modules and regular operations to take place in parallel without interfering with each other. Hot Yoga, Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Forrest Yoga, Pilates HIIT, Soundbath, Breathwork, workshops, and trainings are all under one roof.

What also distinguishes Mahalaya as a place for yoga training in Berlin is its teaching staff. Training director Marieke has been a full-time yoga teacher since 2016 and, as a cultural scientist, shares her passion for the theory and history of yoga, drawing from several thousand classes taught nationally and internationally. Additionally, there is Sev Trayanov, a trained physiotherapist and yoga teacher who made his way through medical studies at Charité to his own practice. The fact that the studio also introduces its students to the world of sounds, essential oils, and cacao ceremonies makes it clear: this is about much more than just asanas on the mat.
