Frea on Torstraße in Mitte is the world's first 100% vegan zero-waste restaurant.
Frea in the heart of Berlin is the world’s first completely vegan zero-waste restaurant, pursuing a philosophy that combines pleasure with sustainability. The corner restaurant on Torstraße in Mitte offers 100% plant-based, seasonal dishes from morning to evening, with a strong focus on environmental consciousness.
Sustainability is not only a priority at Frea when it comes to dish selection. All food items arrive directly, unpackaged, and plastic-free from the producer. Fruits and vegetables are primarily sourced from organic farmers in the region. But that’s not all. You won’t find any trash cans here, as they’re simply not needed. The founders of Frea have thought ahead and invested in an innovative composting machine – named Gersi in the restaurant. Peels and food scraps that cannot be processed further are directly composted by Gersi within 24 hours, leaving no waste, and then returned to the supplying farms.
Everything at Frea is produced in-house. The menu features heavenly fragrant sourdough bread with dips, homemade pasta, or juicy carrot cake. For a very special refreshment with your meal, there’s homemade water kefir.
The restaurant also impresses with its modern yet cozy ambiance. Bright concrete walls meet wood and stainless steel constructions, while green plants add a touch of color to the space.
What’s particularly great: Frea also sells its own products, such as the delicious hazelnut spread, and additionally offers workshops on topics like zero-waste, sustainability, and healthy eating.
