At Yorckstraße 52 in Schöneberg, there's more behind the name POP – The Record Store than just a vinyl shop: here, passionate record knowledge meets a vibrant community that understands pop culture as a discourse. Around 10,000 records, Friday evening events, and a newly renovated store concept make it one of Berlin's most personal destinations for record lovers.
Buying and Selling Vinyl in Berlin: POP – The Record Store on Yorckstraße
For eight years, Martin Väterlein at Yorckstraße 52 has been the primary address for buying and selling like-new LPs in Schöneberg. The focus is on old bootlegs, world music, rock, pop, hip-hop, electro, and punk. In total, around 10,000 records from genres like jazz, hip-hop, avant-garde, folk, and reggae are waiting to be discovered. If you want to browse, simply take your time: all LPs can be leisurely flipped through and listened to with headphones.
With its secondhand assortment, POP stands for lived sustainability, as a newly pressed record produces around 500 grams of CO2. The prices of the offered records range between 2 and 400 Euros. By the way, online purchasing is not possible here: Väterlein deliberately does not operate an online store, because for him, buying records means seeing them, holding them, and listening to them.
More Than a Record Store: Community, Culture, and Fresh Design
Since its renovation in January 2025, the store presents itself with a fresh, individual design. The focus is on personal customer conversations and the on-site experience. Additionally, musicians have the opportunity to make live music on a synthesizer and drum machine during opening hours. This ensures POP remains far more than just a record store.
A board in the store announces informal Friday evening events for the growing community, sometimes featuring DJ music, readings, exhibitions, or small concerts. True pop fans also support the owner’s mission with a small membership fee, becoming part of a network that continues the discourse on pop culture. So, if you’re not just looking for vinyl but also like-minded people, Yorckstraße is the right place.
