TAKE OFF Fallschirmsport: jumping over Brandenburg from Fehrbellin airfield
The jump itself does not happen in Berlin but at Fehrbellin airfield, around seventy kilometres north-west of the city. By car on the A24 the dropzone is about an hour away, and by train the route runs via Berlin-Spandau to Nauen and on by bus. Anyone who calls ahead gets a shuttle from the station. The journey is longer than for most presents on this list, but what waits at the end is a day nobody forgets.
TAKE OFF Fallschirmsport has run the site since 1995 and built an entirely new base in 2005 across roughly ten thousand square metres. It includes a jump plane of its own in the hangar, a parachute workshop with a sewing room for the company’s own jump suits, a lounge and a bistro with a terrace right by the runway. Most of the electricity comes from the site’s own solar panels. Many of the tandem pilots have well over five thousand jumps behind them, some more than ten thousand.

There are two heights to choose from. From 2,500 metres the free fall lasts about twenty-five seconds and costs 189 euros, from 4,000 metres it runs to roughly fifty seconds for 239 euros. Above that sits the high altitude tandem jump from 6,000 metres, which runs with an oxygen supply because of the thin air and can only be booked by phone. The canopy opens at around 1,500 metres in each case.

Photo and video packages can be added, and for company parties and stag dos the team plans whole groups in. Under the name Para-TAKEOFF there are also tandem jumps for people with disabilities, for which the company developed its own system and a boarding lift.
