Kreuzberg's most famous creative department store at Moritzplatz offers over 40,000 items across more than 3,000 square meters – from craft paper to technical plastics and architectural model making supplies. Modulor is the go-to Berlin address for anyone serious about DIY.

For over 35 years, Modulor has stood for a product range that makes creative hearts beat faster. Georg Pfefferkorn and Michael Harnacke manage the creative department store in Berlin’s Aufbauhaus with a clear vision: to bring people and materials together.

Modulor: Berlin’s Largest DIY and Craft Paradise

In the summer of 2011, Planet Modulor opened its retail store in the Aufbauhaus at Moritzplatz as a wholesaler for sophisticated materials. Spread across two floors with approximately 11,000 square meters, today you’ll find more than 40,000 items for architectural model making and creative supplies. Those who come here rarely leave empty-handed. Modulor offers not only standard craft supplies but also high-quality industrial materials, technical plastics, and special papers that are rarely found in ordinary stores. As operations manager Britta Michel puts it succinctly: “Touching is encouraged here.”

The product range includes plastics, rubber, paper, cardboard, wood, and metal, as well as pens, tools, boxes, and workshop furniture. “We want to make creative processes possible – whether in model making, interior design, art classes, for decorations, or for a DIY project at home,” Pfefferkorn describes the store’s mission. The store also carries sophisticated decorative, craft, office, and artist supplies, as well as inspiring gift and stationery items.

More Than Just a Craft Store: Workshops, Consulting, and the World’s Largest Pen Wall

Events and workshops are another part of Modulor’s offering. The goal is to bring creatives in Berlin together beyond just the product range. So, anyone who sees crafting and DIY not just as a hobby but as a community experience will find the right environment here. Additionally, a very special attraction awaits: Modulor’s newest and most spectacular attraction is the world’s largest pen wall. Staedtler co-developed the 23-meter-long and three-meter-high experience area as a brand partner and provided 40,000 colored pencils.

With the move to Moritzplatz, a location with history was revitalized. Previously, the corner behind Oranienplatz was considered less attractive – today it is a hotspot for startups, co-working spaces, and creative businesses. Thus, Modulor is no longer just a contact point for crafters and designers, but part of a vibrant creative ecosystem in the heart of Kreuzberg. So, if you’re planning your next DIY project, you simply cannot miss this place.
