On Veteranenstraße in Berlin-Mitte, behind the vibrant logo of Frau Tulpe Fabrics & Sewing School, there's much more than just a fabric store: Here, Japanese printed fabrics meet American patchwork collections, while the attached sewing school turns both beginners and advanced sewers into creative minds.

Frau Tulpe Stoffe & Nähschule: Berlin’s Address for Fabrics and Crafts

Once you’ve entered Veteranenstraße 19 in Berlin-Mitte, you won’t want to leave quickly. Frau Tulpe is an extraordinary fabric store with a wide range of colorful fabrics, unusual prints, and various fabric qualities. The assortment goes far beyond what you’d find in a regular DIY store: From the beginning, Frau Tulpe offered special fabrics from all over the world, many from Japan and the USA, some “Made in Germany” and some also from Scandinavia. Anyone looking for patchwork fabrics in Berlin will end up here sooner or later anyway. Current designs from Kokka, Riley Blake, or Robert Kaufman are part of the permanent collection. In addition, there is almost exclusively 100% cotton as well as linen-cotton blends and a large, colorful selection of jerseys for all sewing projects. Frau Tulpe also has plenty of sewing accessories for crafters who think beyond fabrics: webbing in various colors with matching metal clasps for bags, special mother-of-pearl buttons for blouses and dresses.

Sewing Classes for Beginners and Advanced Sewers

If you not only want to buy fabrics but also learn to sew, you’ll find everything under one roof at Frau Tulpe. The sewing school is directly connected to the Berlin store and offers daily space for diligent sewers who want to realize their ideas with the help of professionals. The course offering is broad: The integrated sewing school is aimed at both beginners and advanced sewers and offers not only starter courses but also workshops for tops and skirts, as well as specialized courses for zipper bags or quilt cushions. In addition, there is a jersey sewing course once a month. Thus, crafting and DIY in Berlin-Mitte becomes a real community experience. Frau Tulpe is open Tuesday to Friday from 13:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 12:00 to 18:00.
