In the building on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, rooms tilt, mirrors multiply half the class, and a photo mosaic from a distance reveals Albert Einstein. Between the illusions, the focus is on plastic waste, overfishing, and climate change. For a class trip to Berlin, Illuseum Berlin is the stop where photos are taken first, and then discussions follow.

Illuseum Berlin: optical illusions at Alexanderplatz

The building at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 9 is just a few minutes’ walk from Alexanderplatz and can be recognized by the large lettering above the entrance. Inside, rooms tilt, mirrors multiply the number of people present, and color fields trigger movements that don’t exist at all. Among the best-known exhibits are a kaleidoscope made of three mirrors, a photo mosaic that shows Albert Einstein from a distance, and a walk-through tunnel.

Illuseum Berlin describes itself as the world’s first museum that combines illusions with marine conservation. Between the installations, therefore, the focus is repeatedly on plastic pollution, overfishing, and climate change. For a class, this means: first, photos are taken and laughter is shared, then discussions follow. A tour lasts 60 to 90 minutes, and the exhibition is step-free accessible.

Workshops and Guided Tours for School Classes at Illuseum Berlin

Group offers apply for ten people or more and can be booked in German and English, other languages upon request. A class can explore the museum independently, book a guided tour, or choose one of the workshops. “Mission Pressure Waves” combines a 30-minute guided tour with 60 minutes of intaglio printing using existing materials, “Mission Micromosaic” creates artworks from plastic waste, and “Mission Water Worlds” focuses on endangered fish species, illegal fishing, and bycatch.

Those who prefer a more playful approach can book the option with a magic show: a 45-minute guided tour and 30 minutes of close-up magic, incorporating backgrounds on the history of magic and plastic avoidance. All formats with a guided tour require at least seven days’ notice. Admission is exclusively via time slot tickets, individual tickets start at 16 Euros, and there is a special student rate for school classes. Visits are recommended from six years of age, independent exploration from twelve.
