Brandenburg Gate

Among all Berlin sights the Brandenburg Gate is clearly one of the classics.

According to a survey by the German Tourist Association DTV, the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburg Tor in German) is the most popular sight in Berlin and the second-most popular landmark all over Germany. Though it can look back on a history of around 200 years (it is a neoclassical monument from the 18th Century) is present in most people's minds when they think about Berlin. It was also an iconic spot between the erection and fall of the Berlin wall, dividing the West and East Berlin and will be remembered as one of the reunifications points in the city. So if you are new in the city you must go there, take pictures and feel the ambience.

Today it provides the historical backdrop for large events such diverse as official state acts, free concerts and a party on New Year's Eve. The party crowd on New Year's Eve 1989/1990 partied so excessively that after the party the quaridga on top of the Brandenburg Gate had to undergo restauration.
