Anyone looking for a Turkish breakfast in Kreuzberg that feels like a Sunday morning in Istanbul will likely end up on Gneisenaustraße. Balkaymak Simit Evi serves freshly baked simit, hearty breakfast platters, and homemade kaymak.

Simit, Menemen and Bal Kaymak: The Breakfast Offerings

Turkish breakfast in Berlin hardly gets more authentic than here. The signature offerings include menemen made from fresh ingredients, as well as oven-warm simit served with Bal Kaymak (honey and clotted cream). For those who prefer a heartier breakfast, there are large breakfast platters: The plates come filled with a selection of sheep’s cheese, nomad cheese, Gouda, mozzarella, string cheese, cream cheese, butter, and black olives. Additionally, there’s sucuk scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, and a side salad. Between simit and İşkembe, the menu also features pasta dishes like tagliatelle with crema di pomodoro, a small cross-over touch that sets this café apart from many typical breakfast spots. Furthermore, Sigara Börek and homemade Baklava can be found on the menu. It’s open daily from 6 AM to 8 PM. Prices per person range from approximately 10 to 20 Euros. Quite solid for what’s served.

Balkaymak Simit Evi: A Fixture in the Neighborhood

Balkaymak Simit Evi has been firmly rooted at Gneisenaustraße 3 in Kreuzberg for several years, and during this time, it has become a true destination for Turkish breakfast in Berlin. Those familiar with the area know: Kreuzberg is rich in Turkish establishments. Not far away, on Zossener Straße, is Adana Börek, also a popular breakfast restaurant with a family atmosphere. Nevertheless, Balkaymak Simit Evi has built its own loyal customer base. Much is prepared in-house, including the simit. Takeaway and delivery are also possible, but dining in is clearly the better choice. It can get crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, so it’s better to come early.
