With over 10,000 square meters, the Hamburger Bahnhof is the largest venue of the Nationalgalerie and showcases art from 1960 to the present day. The building opened in 1846 as a terminal station for the line to Hamburg; train operations ceased as early as 1884. The Rieckhallen, saved by the State of Berlin, have been in use again since September 2024.
Ostkreuz S-Bahn station is one of Berlin's most unusual photo spots: here, the Ringbahn crosses the City and Ostbahn tracks on its own hall made of glass and steel. Additionally, there's the listed water tower from 1912 with violet glazed bricks. The station is freely accessible, but tripods are not allowed there.
The Historic S-Bahn Association's Christmas S-Bahn train runs through Berlin on all four Advent weekends with four museum cars from 1928 and 1938, starting from Ostbahnhof, Potsdamer Platz, or Nordbahnhof. Families sit on wooden benches in third class, and children's punch and Stollen are available on board. Children pay 8.00 Euros.
At Hardenbergplatz in Charlottenburg, S-Bahn, U2 and U9 lines, regional trains, and a large bus station converge, along with the Zoo with its Elephant Gate, Kurfürstendamm, and Bikini-Haus. The station became famous through Christiane F., for which filming took place in and around the building in 1981, partly with amateur actors from the area.
