Grünschnabel Floristik & Plant Store Berlin
Grünschnabel in the Bötzowviertel calls itself a neighborhood flower shop and sources its cut flowers from nurseries in Brandenburg, with a seven-day freshness guarantee. Bouquets start at 35 Euros, the shop plants balcony boxes for free (only the contents are paid for), and pots and vases come from their own line.
An Old Building Street in the Bötzowviertel
Grünschnabel is located at Hufelandstraße 25 in the Bötzowviertel, the quiet district between Danziger Straße, Greifswalder Straße, and Volkspark Friedrichshain. The district was built until around 1900 on the farmland of the large landowner family Bötzow, as perimeter block development for the middle class; the western part largely survived World War II unscathed, which is why coherent Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau facades still stand here. Since 1904, the street itself has been named after Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland, personal physician to King Frederick William III, who was also the first physician at the Charité, advocated for smallpox vaccination, and founded a clinic for the indigent in 1810; before that, it was simply labeled “Street Number 2” in the development plan. Today, neighborhood restaurants and small shops line up here. The M4 tram line and bus line 200 stop right outside the door, with the M10 additionally at Arnswalder Platz. Volkspark Friedrichshain is just a few minutes’ walk away, which is why the area is considered one of the city’s most sought-after residential locations.
Brandenburg Cut Flowers and an Own Pottery Line
Ricardo Jentzsch’s shop explicitly sees itself as a neighborhood flower shop, not a mail-order business. The cut flowers come predominantly from nurseries in Brandenburg and are passed on the day they are cut, with a seven-day freshness guarantee. A distinction is made for plants: houseplants mostly come from Holland, while plants for balconies, terraces, and gardens are almost exclusively from the region. Tied bouquets start at 35 Euros. Two offers are unusual: pots and vases are available in their own line, produced by a partner workshop in Bulgaria, and anyone who brings their balcony boxes gets them planted for free, only paying for the contents. In addition, there are dried flowers and wreaths, wedding, funeral, and event floristry, office and practice greenery, and a flower subscription that is delivered personally. Courses also take place in the shop, such as a fresh flower head wreath for 65 Euros, which lasts about two hours and requires at least four registrations. Grünschnabel’s focus on the shop rather than shipping is also evident in the subscription: delivery is personal and without elaborate packaging, with a dedicated contact person.
