The Deutschlandmuseum on Leipziger Platz in Berlin-Mitte showcases 2,000 years of German history across twelve walk-through epoch rooms, from the Battle of Teutoburg Forest to reunification. Life-size sets, ambient sounds, and smells replace traditional text panels. For school trips in Berlin, this is a weather-independent destination with a tour lasting approximately 60 minutes.

School Trip Destination near Potsdamer Platz with Short Travel

The Deutschlandmuseum is located at Leipziger Platz 7 in Berlin-Mitte, just a few steps from Potsdamer Platz. School classes arriving by S-Bahn, U-Bahn, or bus can take the Leipziger Platz exit at Potsdamer Platz, which brings them almost directly to the entrance. For tour buses, there are several designated parking spaces in the vicinity, including on Gabriele-Tergit-Promenade and Niederkirchnerstraße. This allows the visit to be easily combined with other attractions around the Brandenburg Gate or the government district. The German Spy Museum is right next door, making it easy to combine both venues into a museum day. All immersive worlds are accessible without steps or via a lift, ensuring the entire class can move through the exhibition together. As a purely indoor destination, the museum is also weather-independent, which makes planning a school trip significantly more relaxed.

Experience Twelve Walk-Through Epochs of German History

Inside, the tour leads through twelve walk-through epochs, from the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, through the High Middle Ages and the Roaring Twenties, to the Fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification. The rooms are built as life-size sets, complemented by ambient sounds, lighting moods, and even smells, which is why the venue is considered an immersive 4D museum. For example, classes can solve a criminal case in the Weimar Republic or print their own bookmark on a historical printing press. The exhibition tour takes about 60 minutes and can be extended without time pressure. For this narrative approach, the museum was awarded the THEA Award as the best themed museum 2024 and was chosen as Germany’s most popular museum by the German National Tourist Board. In 2026, it also received the IAAPA Brass Ring Excellence Award as Attraction of the Year, the first time this award went to a venue in Europe.

Offers for School Classes with Guided Tour and Museum Quiz

School classes can visit the Deutschlandmuseum from ten students for 8 Euros per person, with one teacher accompanying for free for every ten students. Those who wish for guidance can book the Explorer Tour for 40 Euros per class, where a museum educator provides an introduction, gives a lecture halfway through, and the class then continues the tour independently before a smartphone quiz is played at the end. Free quiz sheets in two difficulty levels are included with every visit. The exhibition is recommended from the fifth grade upwards. It is designed for secondary levels I and II and was developed by historians and museum educators. Teachers can preview the exhibition free of charge. Groups of ten or more people should register in advance by phone or email.
