Heavy velvet curtains, Art Deco interior, and a former London Beefeater who heralds the ceremony daily at 6 PM: The Curtain Club at the Ritz-Carlton on Potsdamer Platz in Mitte is Berlin's most elegant cocktail bar, with an unmistakable homage to the Roaring Twenties.

The Curtain Club: When Berlin brings back the Roaring Twenties

Daily at precisely 6 PM, a former London Beefeater in full red ceremonial uniform descends the marble staircase, strikes his staff on the floor, and solemnly declares the bar open. Then the heavy curtains open. What lies behind is one of Berlin’s most special bars, so consistently styled that you briefly forget which century you’re in. Mahogany-paneled walls and a dark wooden ceiling envelop guests in classic luxury, while a glass grand piano fills the room with sound.

The interior of the Curtain Club is entirely in Art Deco style. And the cocktail menu is also dedicated to the 1920s with great attention to detail. Signature drinks include the Roaring Scenography, the TruffleTini, or a classic Cosmopolitan, inspired by what was mixed in the twenties. The Classic Martini comes with a little show: the drink is mixed directly at the table from a trolley.

Cigar Club and Live Music: The Secret Behind the Curtain

A pleasant surprise is the separate cigar room, so cleverly integrated into the hotel architecture that it resembles a speakeasy. It is so skillfully integrated into the hotel’s architecture that many guests only discover it when pointed out by staff. Smokers don’t have to go out into the cold but seamlessly transition from the Curtain Club into the well-ventilated room with fine leather sofas, paintings, and an impressive selection of cigars.

Added to this is the musical side of this special bar. On selected evenings, guests can relax in the Roaring Twenties atmosphere with jazz and pop sounds. Live music runs from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 PM. Table reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.
